Voices of the Next Generations

Next generations of former prisoners of the Sachsenhausen concentration camp tell their stories

Journalism as a coping mechanism

Thoughts from the symposium

I visited Sachsenhausen for the first time during our autumn seminar, only a few months after my Grand-Dad Klaus had passed away. Needless to say, this experience felt truly special, and even overwhelming at times. Very quickly, I started taking notes in order to document the seminar, like you would have a diary, but also because I needed to focus on an intellectual task in order to process my own feelings. Every day, I would write posts and share them on my social media accounts – The interest was much bigger than I had expected! That is why I’ve decided to share them on the website as well, so that the next generations can have a recollection of how we developed the project. Who knows? Maybe in a hundred years, digital archeologists will fall upon these texts and use them as part of their research! Until then, you’re most welcome to wander through my thoughts, where the destination is the journey…
